They will have the chance to join the athletic party in the first edition of the Gran Canaria-Maspalomas Marathon in a race in which the youngest runners will play a leading role. The event will take place tomorrow, Saturday 20th, starting at 10:30 am. 

Less than 24 hours before the start of the first edition of the Gran Canaria-Maspalomas Marathon, the young promises of Canarian athletics will be the protagonists. The race is open to all young athletes born between 2006 and 2019 who will be divided into categories from U8 to U16. They will run a beautiful circuit in the emblematic area of the Faro de Maspalomas. 

At 10:30 the Holiday World Kids Race will start, accompanied by the High School Race organised with the collaboration of the Gran Canaria Athletics Federation, where boys and girls aged 16 and over will take part in a very participative day. 

They will compete for their medal in a 3,000 metre race. The course will start at the Maspalomas Lighthouse and then go into the Avenida del Oasis, to go up the Paseo de la Charca, turn around in the Tony Gallardo Park, go down to the Maspalomas Beach, where after passing through the Plaza de las Palmeras they will return to the Avenida del Faro to cross the finish line. 

Before the start of the Holiday World Kids Race, all those registered for the marathon will be able to warm up before the big day. The sports management of the Gran Canaria-Maspalomas Marathon has organised the Active Run at 9:00 a.m. for a light jog of 3 kilometres to get our athletes' legs in shape and a breakfast to refuel before the 42 kilometres on Sunday 21st. 

EXPO and Secretariat Area

From Thursday 18th when the secretariat started until late yesterday, more than 1,000 race bibs and runner's bags have been collected. Today they will continue to be handed out at the Faro de Maspalomas from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00. Exceptionally, bib numbers can be collected on Sunday 21st from 06:00 to 08:00 hours for the latecomers.

At the same time, the EXPO area was set up, an attraction not only for those registered for the race but also for hundreds of curious people who have come to the esplanade at the foot of the Maspalomas Lighthouse to find out about other sporting events to be held on the island such as the Gran Canaria Bike Week during the week of 4 to 11 December or the Alcalde Camilo Sánchez half marathon on 28 November. Special offers on sports clothing and footwear, food, physiotherapy area or the exclusive Gran Canaria-Maspalomas Marathon clothing stand. 

Traffic and parking restrictions 

On the 20th, it will be possible to circulate normally throughout the area of Meloneras and Faro de Maspalomas. The road closures will be kept to a minimum in an attempt to cause as little damage as possible to the normal circulation in this area. In addition, those registered will have a special price in the Maspalomas car park by showing their bib number. 

The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and DG Events organise this event in which the Cabildo of Gran Canaria collaborates through the Sports Department, directed by Francisco Castellano, and the Tourism Department, headed by Carlos Álamo. It also has the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, through Promotur and the brand "Islas Canarias, latitud de vida". The organisation of the Gran Canaria-Maspalomas Marathon has counted on Macro Fit as the official training centre, Vithas as a health partner and sponsor of the 10K.
