ARTICLE 1.- ORGANISATION

The Maspalomas-Gran Canaria Marathon is a sporting event promoted by the Town Hall of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and the company DG Eventos SL. It has the support and promotion of the Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria and the Government of the Canary Islands through its Tourism Department.  

ARTICLE 2.- THE EVENT. DATE AND PLACE OF CELEBRATION

The 1st Gran Canaria - Maspalomas Marathon will take place the week of the 18th to the 21st of November and will be held in the streets of Maspalomas, having as its center of operations the vicinity of the Maspalomas Lighthouse.

It will consist of the following distances:

  • Breakfast Run - saturday 19th November from 9:00h.
  • Kids Race - saturday 20th November from 10:30h.
  • 10K (10,000 metres) - Sundiay 21st November, starting at 8:15h.
  • Marathon (42,195 metres) - Sunday 21st November from 8:00h.

ARTICLE 4.- RULES AND REGULATIONS

The Gran Canaria - Maspalomas Marathon distance is considered an urban foot race of 42,195 meters and runners of any nationality, federated or not, who wish to do so and who comply with the current RFEA regulations, will have access to registration, provided that they are 18 years of age on the day of the race.

The circuit, urban and on asphalt/pavement, will be approved by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation,hereinafter RFEA, RFEAand all the kilometer points will be properly indicated. The race is included in the RFEA Calendar.

ARTICLE 5.- PARTICIPATION

Runners of any nationality may participate in the distances of the 1st Gran Canaria - Maspalomas Marathon. They must be correctly registered in due time and form as specified in these regulations.

Athletes aged between 16 and 18 years old (on the day of the race) may participate in the 10 km distance, only under parental authorization or legal guardian of the minor (download regulatory authorization).descargar autorización reglamentaria).

This authorization must be sent within the registration period by e-mail, together with a photocopy of the ID cards of the minor and the parent or guardian, to the e-mail address info@maspalomasmarathon.com

Each runner participates in the race under his or her own responsibility and declares that he or she is in sufficient physical condition to finish the race.

ARTICLE 6.- REGISTRATION

Los participantes en la distancia Maratón con licencia federativa española de atletismo en vigor, obtendrán un descuento de 5€ en los precios anteriormente indicados. Será necesario acreditar tal circunstancia en el momento de retirar el dorsal.

Participants residing in the Canary Islands who are unemployed will receive a 50% discount on their registration. It will be necessary to prove this circumstance by presenting the DARDE (document accrediting the renewal of the demand) sending a email a to hello@maspalomasparathon.com.

At the time of registration, all participants will have the option of taking out cancellation insurance. The cost of this insurance is 8€ and by contracting it, participants will be able to request a refund of the registration fee up to a maximum of 15 days before the date of the event.

Once the registration has been made, the amount will not be refunded under any circumstances and it will not be possible to make any type of change to the registration (title and/or modality).

7.1 - Athletes with a disability

Todos los atletas con discapacidad podrán solicitar invitación para el maratón o el 10km y además esta invitación será extensible a su/s guía/s. Los atletas con discapacidad podrán participar en las pruebas a pie o en silla de ruedas autónoma o empujadas. La solicitud de esta invitación debe hacerse en el correo electrónico: running@maspalomasmarathon.com

ARTICLE 8.- COLLECTION OF BIB NUMBERS.

The timetable for the collection of bibs and runner's bag will be:   

  • Jueves 18 de noviembre de 2021 de 10:00 a 14:00 y de 15:00 a 19:00 horas.
  • Friday, November 19, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

An official document (ID card or passport) is required required to collect your bib number, without this document the bib number will not be issued. The bib may be collected by any person other than the runner with duly completed authorization. It is not possible to collect race bibs on the day of the race.

ARTICLE 9.- TIMING.

The timing of the 1st Gran Canaria - Maspalomas Marathon will be done by electronic timing system using chip-bibs. Each participant will receive a personal race-bib with a chip incorporated in it.

The bib numbers are personal and non-transferable and must be worn clearly visible on the front of the torso, between the chest and the abdomen, during the entire race. Failure to wear it as indicated may be grounds for disqualification, and athletes who are not wearing a bib or who are not registered will not be allowed on the circuit.

Only those participants who run the race with the race bib and chip provided by the organization will be included in the classification. In any case, the runner is obliged to check the proper functioning of his/her chip at the stand provided by the timing entity during the race bib distribution and to carry it with him/her during the race as indicated in this document.

The gross time (from the moment of the starting gun to the finish line) is the only official result of the race. In any case, the so-called "net time", time from crossing the start line to crossing the finish line, will be provided to each runner as informative data without any validity whatsoever.

There will be time controls at the start, along the course and at the finish line, disqualifying those athletes who intentionally skip them. A maximum time of 7 hours is established to complete the course.

The obligatory abandonment controls will be every ten kilometers and there will be an extra control at kilometer thirty-five. Participants who have not passed this point within the maximum time foreseen at each of these points according to the table below must withdraw from the race.

The race judge reserves the right to disqualify any athlete who does not wear the race bib correctly, does not complete the entire course, does not provide the organization with the required documentation, or fails to comply with any other rule of the FCA and/or RFEA regulations.

ARTICLE 10.- STARTING BOXES

The start will be organized in boxes according to the runners' accredited race pace, in order to speed it up as far as possible.

The different starting boxes will be common for the 42K and 10K races and will be established on the basis of the times at the finish line that the participant estimates and reflects on the registration form.

Runners who apply for boxes 1, 2 and 3 must justify their mark or time at the time of their registration, with the accrediting document (diploma or classification of the race showing their best mark in a period of less than 3 years). The document must include the name of the race, the brand and the name of the runner. This document must be sent to info@maspalomasmarathon.com before 7 November 2020.

In accordance with the RFEA regulations, there will be different classifications in both male and female categories, depending on the year of birth according to the following table:

ARTICLE 12.- TROPHIES, FINISHER MEDAL AND DIPLOMAS..

  • The following trophies will be awarded in the Marathon distance:

- Female and Male General Classification of CANARY RESIDENTS: Trophy for 3 first classified.
- Female and Male General Classification of CANARY RESIDENTS: Trophy for 3 first classified.

At the finish line:

On the event website:
- Finisher diploma for all participants detailing their time and official classification.

The first three cash prizes in the general classification will be reduced by 50% if the times achieved exceed 2h 50' in the women's category and 2h 20' in the men's category.

The prizes for Canarian athletes are cumulative to those of the general classification and are not linked to marks.

They will also be subject to the corresponding taxes applicable by law.

The cash prizes will be awarded after the event, by bank transfer.

  • In the 10K distance, the following trophies will be awarded:

ARTICLE 13.- COMPLAINTS.

Claims must be made orally to the Referee no later than 15 minutes after the official announcement of the results. The Referee's decision is final.

ARTICLE 14.- ANTI-DOPING.

As the I Gran Canaria - Maspalomas Marathon is included in the National Calendar of the RFEA, there will be a compulsory anti-doping control in the I Maspalomas-Gran Canaria Marathon. Any runner who, having been designated to pass this control, refuses to do so, will be automatically disqualified in all the categories and prizes that may correspond to him/her and his/her decision will be formally reported to the competent bodies of the RFEA. In this way, athletes who pass this control and are entitled to a cash prize, will have to wait for the result of this control to receive the prize..

ARTICLE 15.- SERVICES TO THE RUNNER

  • T-SHIRT AND CHIP-BACK - Delivery of a technical T-shirt, chip-bib and timing of the race.
  • RACE AND FINISH POINTS - Liquid and solid refreshments according to the kilometric point of the course and finish line.
  • TIME-TIMING SERVICE with net and gross time by chip.
  • FINISHER MEDAL
  • GUARDROBE- Cloakroom service.
  • PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICE
  • MEDICAL SERVICES AND FIRST AID - Health care service along the course and hospital at the finish line.
  • MEDICAL INSURANCE: The organization will take out a sports accident insurance policy for each of the participants in the race.

ARTICLE 16.- SPORTING BEHAVIOUR AND DISQUALIFICATIONS.

Participants are obliged to respect the indications of the security, organization, volunteers and/or collaborators. Participants who show violent or xenophobic attitudes, carry weapons or throw rubbish outside the permitted context will be excluded from the competition.

The organizers may exclude from the event those participants who show unsportsmanlike behavior or disrespect towards the organizers and/or the other participants.

Participants accept each of the articles of these rules and undertake honestly and honorably not to anticipate the time of the start and to cover the full distance of the race in which they are registered until the finish line.

Each runner participates at his/her own risk and, when registering, declares on his/her own responsibility that he/she is in good enough physical condition to complete the race within the time limit established by the organizers

The judges of the race and the organizers reserve the right to disqualify any runner who commits the following irregularities:

1. Registering with false data.

2. Altering the data provided to the Organization or to the Judge Referee with respect to what appears in his ID card or federative card.

3. To place oneself in a starting box that is not the one assigned by the organizers.

4. Not being present in the area of the START at the time set by the organization.

5. Not wearing the race bib or not wearing it correctly on the chest or manipulating and folding it.

6. Using a bib not authorized by the organizers.

7. Participating with a bib number assigned to another runner.

8. Not completing the entire course of the race or failing to pass one or more of the controls established by the organizers.

9. Failure to heed the indications of the organizers and/or judges during the course of the race.

10. Behaving in an unsportsmanlike manner.

11. Refusal to pass the anti-doping control.

12. Manifestly showing signs of poor physical condition.

14. Incumpla cualquier otra norma contemplada en las Normas de la FCA, RFEA o del I Gran Canaria – Maspalomas Marathon.

15. Others in accordance with the Official Rules of the R.F.E.A.

Disqualified riders will not be eligible for prizes, trophies or diplomas by category.

ARTICLE 17.- ABANDONMENT

1. Voluntary abandonment: If a runner decides to abandon the race, he/she must go to the nearest refreshment post or to the pit area and inform the coordinator of this post so that the organization can take note of this circumstance.

2. Injury or accident: If a runner suffers any injury, accident or similar while taking part in the race, he/she should try to contact any member of the organization so that the appropriate measures can be taken.

3. Obligatory abandonment: If the runner does not enter the finish line in the race within the maximum time established or does not comply with the partial times set by the organizers.

ARTICLE 18.- VEHICLES AUTHORISED ON THE CIRCUIT

The only vehicles authorized to follow the race will be those designated by the organizers, which will carry visible identification at all times. It is strictly forbidden to follow the runners on motorbikes, bicycles, roller skates or any other wheeled vehicle.

ARTICLE 19.- COVID PROTOCOL

The 1st Gran Canaria - Maspalomas Marathon has a detailed health protocol, available on the official website of the event. The protocol includes the need to require all participants in the event to have a certificate to certify their participation in the current social and health context.

All those registered for the event confirm the acceptance of these measures as well as the completion of the same.

In case of cancellation of the event due to a situation arising from the incidence of the COVID19 pandemic, participants are entitled to claim 100% of the registration fee, including cancellation insurance within 30 calendar days of the cancellation announcement.

ARTICLE 20.- DATA PROTECTION

By registering for the 1st Gran Canaria - Maspalomas Marathon, participants give their consent for DG Eventos, by itself or through third parties, to automatically process their personal data for exclusively sporting, promotional or commercial purposes. In accordance with the provisions of Organic Law 15/1999, of 13th December, on the Protection of Personal Data, the participant has the right to access these files in order to rectify or cancel all or part of their content.

Likewise, and in accordance with the sporting interests, promotion, distribution and exploitation of the 1st Gran Canaria Maspalomas Marathon for the whole world, the runners authorize the organizers of the event to record all or part of their participation in the race by means of photographs, films, television, radio, video, Internet and any other media known or to be known, and therefore all the rights relating to its commercial and advertising exploitation as deemed appropriate, without time limit and without the right to receive financial compensation.

ARTICLE 21.- PARTICIPANTS' DECLARATION

By paying the registration fee for the 1st Gran Canaria - Maspalomas Marathon I DECLARE under my responsibility:

NOT to suffer from acquired or congenital physical conditions, and/or injuries that could cause disorders in my health or living conditions, as a consequence of my participation in the I Gran Canaria Maspalomas Marathon.

I have undergone the relevant medical checks and I am medically fit and adequately trained for the activities that will take place in the 1st Gran Canaria - Maspalomas Marathon.

I undertake to collaborate and comply with the instructions received (organizers, Local Police, Civil Protection, Volunteers, Judges, etc.), to ensure the safety of all runners and the smooth running of the race.

I declare that I will carry out the activities related to the I Maspalomas-Gran Canaria Marathon of my own free will, at my own and exclusive risk and I assume sole responsibility for my activities, goods, health and physical and/or psychological integrity, excluding any civil and/or criminal liability and expressly waiving any type of claim to the organizer and/or sponsors and/or institutions, both public and private, participating in the organization of the 1st Maspalomas-Gran Canaria Marathon, with respect to any damage, including but not limited to physical, moral, material, theft, robbery, loss or any other kind of damage that I may suffer or that may be caused to my person or my property before, during or after the activity related to the 1st Gran Canaria - Maspalomas Marathon, even if the damage may arise due to negligence or fault on the part of the aforementioned.

ARTICLE 22.- ACCEPTANCE OF THE REGULATIONS

All participants, by registering, accept these regulations and the disclaimer included in the participants' declaration (article 20 of these regulations). In case of doubt or if any situation arises that is not reflected in these rules, the organizing company will be in charge.

ARTICLE 23.- CANCELLATION DUE TO FORCE MAJEURE

In the event of suspension or postponement of the event due to force majeure, be it adverse meteorological phenomena, labor conflict or strike, decision of the competent authority, etc., no refund of the amount paid in the registration or any compensation will be made. Refunds for cancellations will only be made in the cases contemplated in article 19 of these regulations.

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS:

1. The organizers reserve the right to make any changes to these regulations if they deem it necessary, and they must communicate this on the website and in the runner's information.

2. All matters not provided for in these regulations will be governed by the General Competition Rules of the FCA and RFEA for the 2021 season.
